Eagle Scout Award Instructions

If you are an Life Scout looking for instructions on how to begin work on your Eagle Project and Eagle award application, you've come to the right place.

Below are step by step instructions for how to get started.

1. Finish up your last few merit badges. To qualify for the Eagle Scout Rank you need to complete 21 total merit badges, including the 13 required badges. 
• Review your official advancement records.
2. Download the Eagle Scout Service Project Workbook.
3. Read the instructions in the Workbook and Complete the Project Proposal section.
4. Contact Dennis Smith (the District Scouting Executive) to schedule a time to meet with the District committee to review your proposal. 
• NOTE: Your project must be approved by this committee before you work on it.
5. Once your project proposal is approved by the District Committee, read and complete the Workbook's Project Plan section.
6. Have one of your a Scout leaders review the Project Plan to ensure it fulfills all of the requirements noted in the workbook.
7. Review the Project Report section in the workbook to understand the types of information you will need to provide in the report after your project is completed.
8. Execute your Eagle Project according to the project plan.
• Be sure to make notes and take pictures to include in your project report.
9. After finishing the Eagle Project, complete the Project Report section of the workbook.
10. Download and complete the Eagle Scout Rank Application.
• You can find the dates you need for this application in your official advancement records.
• You'll need to acquire signatures from your unit leader (Scoutmaster or adult leader over your Teacher or Priest quorum) and the Scout Committee Chair (Jeff Morgan).
11. When you are getting Jeff Morgan's signature, he will review your Eagle Scout Project Workbook and your Eagle Scout Rank Application to ensure everything looks correct.
12. Once you have Jeff's signature, you need to deliver your Eagle Scout Rank Application and Eagle Scout Service Project Workbook to the Council Scout Shop.
13. The council staff will review your application and once approved (typically takes a couple weeks) will send it back to Dennis Smith who will contact you to schedule your Eagle Scout Rank Board of Review.
14. Once you have passed your Eagle Board of Review, Dennis Smith will resubmit your application to the Council for final review and approval.
15. Once approved, you will receive an approval letter from the council letting you know that you are officially an Eagle Scout.
16. At this point, you and your family have the option to plan and schedule an Eagle Court of Honor.
• The Unit's Scouting Committee will be happy to help with this event but it is the responsibility of the Scout and his family to lead and execute.
• The Ward will purchase the basic Eagle Rank award kit. Other award items are the responsibility of the family.
