Although you have until you turn 18 years old to complete the requirements for the Eagle Rank, it is much more difficult to achieve after you turn 14 because our Unit shifts activities away from the Boy Scouting program at that age. Consequently, any requirements remaining after you turn 14 will have to be primarily completed on your own.
Year 1 (11 year old program)
Our district/stake runs the 11 year old Scouting program. Their curriculum is setup so that if you attend the weekly meetings, you will have completed all of the requirements (except the new camping requirement) for the Tenderfoot, Second Class and First Class Ranks.Completing these requirements as an 11 year old is a critical jump start toward success. Once you enter the 12-13 year old program we spend most of our time working on the Star and Life requirements and it will fall on you to complete most missing requirements for the three starter ranks (Tenderfoot, Second and First Class) with your parents at home.
Years 2 & 3 (12 and 13 year old program)
Assuming you have achieved your 1st Class Rank the following curriculum will allow you to complete all of the requirements to begin working on your Eagle Project.Merit Badge Pow Wows
Three times per year our unit will hold a required merit badge pow wow (i.e. event). These are 4-5 hour events where we power through the book work for the hardest merit badges. During your two years in the 12-13 year old program you need to attend each one of these Pow Wows which will allow you to achieve 80% of the requirements for 9 of the 13 required merit badges. The remaining 20% of requirements will need to be completed at home with your family or during Troop meetings/campouts.Fall Pow Wow Merit Badges

Week Long Scout Camp
Ever other year we will attend an official week long Scout Camp. Attending this camp will allow you to complete the remaining Eagle Rank required merit badges. You will also be able to complete a couple more elective merit badges and chalk up 5 nights of camping toward the 21 night camping merit badge requirement.

Weekly Scout Meetings
We meeting almost every week on Wednesday nights at 7pm or on occasion on other nights of the week when opportunities arise that cannot be accomplished on Wednesdays. We do our very best to make these weekly meetings as fun and interesting as possible so you will be excited to come to Scouts. These meetings are led by the boys and we usually end up working on elective merit badges, doing service projects or a field trip to somewhere cool - all of which are selected by the boys.
Attending weekly meetings ensures you will easily have the 8 elective merit badges required for the Eagle Rank.
Monthly Campouts
As mentioned earlier, the required Camping Merit Badge requires 21 nights of camping on an official scout camp (no, family camps do not count toward this requirement). Our Troop's goal is to hold at least 9 1-night camps and one 5-night camp each year. Consequently, you have 28 camping opportunities during your two years as a 12-13 year old Scout plus between 1-3 camping night opportunities as an 11 year old scout.
As you can see, there isn't a lot of room for missing campouts if you want to achieve the Eagle Rank before you turn 14. For this reason most of our one-night camps will be held on Friday nights, close to home, so we can return early (typically no later than 9am) allowing boys participating in Saturday sports to attend. We will accommodate earlier sports schedules as well, just let us know if you have an early game and we'll make sure you are back in time.
